Interview with Brazil artist-Victor Hugo Sousa
===Interview from: Kung-Long int Co.Ltd ( Please indicate the source )===
Hi, my name is Victor Hugo Sousa and I'm a character artist based in São Paulo, Brazil. |
Q:We see your site has some exquisite model, that is what the software created?
Victor:Well, I use a lot of tools because it depends on the project, but my most used are: ZBrush, 3DSMax, MARI, Marvelous and Topogun.
Q: It has a relationship with your current job?
Victor: Currently I'm a character artist at Iron Studios Collectibles doing statues for Marvel, Disney, Ayrton Senna among other licenses.
I did this vampire as a project in between projects during the weekend, I had to relax from my other projects. Hope you guys like it. |
Q: Why would you choose it (software) to create? What is special?
Victor: ZBrush is an amazing software that really changed the industry and gave us more freedom to turn our ideas into reality.
Q: In the creative process you have encountered any difficulties? How to break through?
Victor: I always have difficulties in some part of the project and I have some ways to break through them.
Like to listen to music very loud so I can disconnect from the world, or maybe play video games, or watch movies. My new therapy is Hot Toys(*1) and Custom 1/6 action figures lol.
*1: Hot Toys is a company from Hong Kong. Established in 2000, Hot Toys Limited is a high-end collectible brand, devoted to designing, developing and producing high quality and highly detailed collectibles with authentic likeness. Initially started the business from producing 1/6th scale military action figures, Hot Toys has since expanded its product scope to specialize in 1/6th scale collectible figures from popular movies, video games, comics as well as world renowned celebrities.

DEMON WARRIOR
I've finished this piece that I've started in an online workshop with Rafael Grassetti and I've tried to give it as much as Blizzard's Diablo look as I could. Thanks Alex Oliver, Cesar Eiji and Alex Huguet for the anatomy tips. Demon concept by Thiago Almeida and weapon concept by Blizzard(Diablo's 3 Female Barbarian Concept).

Q: Please talk with us at MELIES | Escola de Cinema, 3D e Animação, where you learn what skills?
Victor: Well, Melies was one of the places that I've studied, there I had online workshops with Rafael Grassetti (I've done another one with him later) and Pedro Toledo.
But I've done a couple more courses, one with Justin Holt, Texturing with MARI, online in CGSociety and I've studied a lot with Glauco Longhi at his studio. There he taught me a lot about sculpture and anatomy.

Q: How much time do you spend each day to improve own skills?
Victor: The most time I can. Like every project I try to push myself harder and I know that I will never stop studying, so I can really say that today, I spend at least 8 hours a day trying to improve my skills.
Q: These creative works in you which one is you most satisfied with? Why?
Victor: I think that the one I like the most is the "Haohmaru - Samurai Shodown" piece. Because I'm a huge fan of the franchise and I tried to achieve a cinematic look yet I also tried to keep the original look of the game. I was one of the 10 winners in a FB Contest with this piece and good stuff happened because of it.

Q: Do you think the current development of 3d animation or movie industry in Brazil?
Victor: This is a tough subject, because I learned a lot with the industry in Brazil, we have great artists known around the world, I made a lot of friends/brothers and we all love what we do, but work with computer graphics in Brazil is hard, all the deadlines are for yesterday , we have almost no stability, among some other stuff.
But the trick is, if you really love what you do, these challenges won't matter and it will make you a better artist/professional. And you will have to keep going and pushing yourself harder and harder to achieve all your dreams(in Brazil or abroad) and believe me when I say that it's possible. :-)
Hi everybody in Taiwan, cheers from Brazil.
Thanks a lot Kung Long for this opportunity and I hope you guys keep doing this amazing work. This was awesome.
All best for you.
Victor.
